Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights in the wilderness to prepare for His public ministry and to overcome Satan's temptations through complete obedience to God. After His baptism, the Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness, where He fasted before being tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1–11, KJV). Unlike Adam, who failed in a perfect garden, and Israel, which often failed during its forty years in the wilderness, Jesus remained completely faithful, resisting every temptation by quoting God's Word. His victory demonstrated His sinless nature and His authority over Satan. The forty days also reflect a biblical period of testing and preparation, seen in the lives of Moses, Elijah, and Israel. Jesus' fast reminds believers to depend on God's Word, seek spiritual strength through prayer, and trust God during seasons of testing and preparation.
