God confused humanity's languages at the Tower of Babel to stop people's pride and rebellion against Him. After the Flood, everyone spoke one language, but instead of spreading across the earth as God had commanded, they gathered to build a city and a tower "whose top may reach unto heaven" to make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:1–9, KJV). In response, God confused their language so they could no longer understand one another, causing them to stop building and scatter across the earth. The place was called Babel, meaning "confusion," because "there did the LORD confound the language of all the earth" (Genesis 11:9, KJV). This event explains the origin of different languages in the Bible and reminds believers that true unity comes through humble obedience to God rather than human pride and self-glory.
