Jesus was born in Bethlehem to fulfill God's prophecy that the promised Messiah would come from the City of David. More than 700 years before Christ's birth, the prophet Micah declared, "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah... out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel" (Micah 5:2, KJV). Although Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth, a Roman census required them to travel to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born just as God had foretold (Luke 2:1–7, KJV). Bethlehem was also King David's hometown, connecting Jesus to the royal line of David and confirming His rightful claim as the promised King and Messiah. The name Bethlehem means "House of Bread," fittingly pointing to Jesus, who later declared, "I am the bread of life" (John 6:35, KJV). His birth in Bethlehem demonstrates God's perfect faithfulness in fulfilling every promise of Scripture.
