One of the Bible's most dramatic miracles occurred on Mount Carmel, where the prophet Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to prove who the true God was (1 Kings 18:20–40, KJV). After the prophets of Baal failed to receive any answer despite hours of prayer, Elijah repaired the altar of the LORD, drenched it with water three times, and prayed. God immediately answered by sending fire from heaven, which consumed the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the dust, and even the water in the trench. When the people witnessed this miracle, they fell on their faces and declared, "The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God." This powerful event demonstrated that the God of Israel alone is the living and true God, calling His people to turn away from idolatry and return to faithful worship.
