Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, located in modern-day Syria, northeast of the Sea of Galilee. It is best known in the Bible as the place where Saul, a fierce persecutor of Christians, encountered the risen Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1–9, KJV). Blinded by the heavenly light, Saul was led into the city, where the disciple Ananias prayed for him. Saul regained his sight, was baptized, and soon began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 9:10–22, KJV). Damascus later became an important center for the spread of the gospel during the early church. The city's biblical significance reminds believers that God's grace can completely transform a person's life and use them for His glory.
