The Garden of Eden was the perfect garden God planted "eastward in Eden" as the first home for Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:8, KJV). The Bible describes a river flowing out of Eden that divided into four rivers: Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel (Tigris), and Euphrates (Genesis 2:10–14, KJV). While the Tigris and Euphrates still exist today, the exact location of Eden cannot be identified with certainty because the global Flood likely altered the earth's geography. After Adam and Eve sinned, God drove them out of the garden and placed cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life (Genesis 3:24, KJV). Eden represents humanity's original fellowship with God and points forward to the complete restoration that believers will experience through Jesus Christ in the new creation.
