The number 70 in the Bible is often associated with completeness, the nations, leadership, and God's appointed purposes. While the Bible does not explicitly define its symbolic meaning, it appears repeatedly in significant contexts. After the Flood, 70 nations are traditionally identified in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10), representing the spread of humanity. God appointed 70 elders to help Moses lead Israel (Numbers 11:16–17), and according to many manuscripts of Luke, Jesus sent out 70 disciples (some manuscripts read 72) to proclaim the kingdom of God (Luke 10:1). The Israelites also spent 70 years in Babylonian exile, fulfilling the word spoken through the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 25:11–12).
