Noah's Flood was a worldwide judgment sent by God because of humanity's widespread wickedness, while Noah found favour in the sight of the Lord (Genesis 6:5–8, KJV). God instructed Noah to build an ark to preserve his family and representatives of every kind of land animal. After 40 days and 40 nights of rain, the floodwaters covered the earth, and all life outside the ark perished (Genesis 7). When the waters receded, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat, and Noah, his family, and the animals left the ark to begin life anew. God then established a covenant with Noah, placing the rainbow in the sky as the sign of His promise never again to destroy the whole earth by a flood (Genesis 9:11–17). The Flood marks a major turning point in the Bible's timeline, demonstrating both God's righteous judgment and His mercy toward those who trust and obey Him.
