Cornelius was a Roman centurion stationed in Caesarea who is remembered as the first recorded Gentile to receive the Holy Spirit without first becoming a Jew (Acts 10, KJV). The Bible describes him as "a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house," who prayed regularly and gave generously to those in need (Acts 10:2). God sent an angel to Cornelius and, at the same time, gave the Apostle Peter a vision showing that the gospel was for all people. When Peter preached in Cornelius' home, the Holy Spirit came upon everyone who believed, and they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 10:44–48, KJV). Cornelius' conversion marked a turning point in the early church, demonstrating that salvation through Jesus Christ is offered to both Jews and Gentiles alike through faith.
