John the Baptist was the prophet chosen by God to prepare the way for Jesus Christ, fulfilling the prophecies of Isaiah and Malachi (Isaiah 40:3; Malachi 3:1; Matthew 3:1–3, KJV). Born to Zacharias and Elisabeth, John preached a message of repentance and baptized people in the Jordan River, calling them to turn from their sins and prepare for the coming Messiah. He identified Jesus as "the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29, KJV) and had the privilege of baptizing Him. John boldly confronted sin, including King Herod's unlawful marriage, which led to his imprisonment and eventual execution (Matthew 14:1–12, KJV). Jesus declared that "among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist" (Matthew 11:11, KJV). John's life exemplifies humility, courage, and unwavering faithfulness in pointing others to Christ.
