Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy and respected member of the Jewish council (Sanhedrin) who secretly followed Jesus because of his faith (Matthew 27:57; John 19:38, KJV). After Jesus' crucifixion, Joseph courageously asked Pontius Pilate for Jesus' body and, together with Nicodemus, wrapped it in fine linen with spices according to Jewish burial customs (John 19:39–40). He then laid Jesus in his own new tomb, which had been cut out of rock, fulfilling the prophecy that the Messiah would be buried "with the rich in his death" (Isaiah 53:9, KJV). Joseph's act of courage and devotion ensured that Jesus received an honorable burial before His resurrection on the third day. His life demonstrates that genuine faith often requires bold action, even when it involves personal risk.
