Lydia was the first recorded convert to Christianity in Europe and a successful seller of purple cloth from the city of Thyatira (Acts 16:14–15, KJV). While living in Philippi, she worshipped God and listened as the Apostle Paul preached by the riverside. The Bible says "the Lord opened" her heart to respond to Paul's message, and she was baptized along with the members of her household. Lydia then welcomed Paul and his companions into her home, making it a gathering place for the early believers in Philippi (Acts 16:40). Her hospitality and generosity helped support the growth of the early church. Lydia's story highlights God's work in opening hearts to the gospel and shows how faith, generosity, and hospitality can advance His kingdom.
