The Garden of Eden was the beautiful garden that God planted as the first home for Adam and Eve. The Bible says it was located "eastward in Eden" and was watered by a river that divided into four rivers: Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel (Tigris), and Euphrates (Genesis 2:8–14, KJV). Because the Tigris and Euphrates still exist today, many scholars believe Eden may have been located somewhere in the ancient Mesopotamian region (modern-day Iraq and nearby areas), but its exact location is unknown. After Adam and Eve sinned, God drove them out of the garden and placed cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life (Genesis 3:24). While the precise location remains a mystery, the Garden of Eden represents humanity's perfect fellowship with God before sin entered the world and reminds believers of the future restoration God promises through Christ.
