Sea of Galilee is a large freshwater lake in northern Israel and one of the most important locations in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Also known as the Lake of Gennesaret and the Sea of Tiberias, it was surrounded by towns such as Capernaum, Bethsaida, and Tiberias, where Jesus taught, healed, and called many of His first disciples, including Peter, Andrew, James, and John (Matthew 4:18–22, KJV). The Sea of Galilee was the setting for many of Jesus' miracles, including calming the storm, walking on the water, and the miraculous catch of fish (Mark 4:35–41; Matthew 14:22–33; John 21:1–14). Although called a "sea," it is actually a freshwater lake about 21 kilometers (13 miles) long and 13 kilometers (8 miles) wide, making it one of the most significant places in the New Testament and a lasting symbol of Jesus' ministry, power, and compassion.
