Jesus washed His disciples' feet to demonstrate humility, servant leadership, and the kind of love His followers should show one another. During the Last Supper, Jesus took the role of a servant by washing His disciples' dusty feet—a task normally performed by the lowest household servant (John 13:1–17, KJV). Afterward, He said, "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet" (John 13:14, KJV). Through this powerful example, Jesus taught that true greatness is found not in seeking status or power, but in serving others with humility and love.
