Jerusalem is called the Holy City because God chose it as the spiritual center of Israel and the place where His Temple would be built. The Bible says, "But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there" (2 Chronicles 6:6, KJV). It became the capital of Israel under King David, and his son Solomon built the First Temple there, making it the center of worship for God's people. Jerusalem is also the city where many of the most important events in Jesus' life took place, including His triumphal entry, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Bible refers to it as "the holy city" (Isaiah 52:1; Matthew 4:5) and points forward to the New Jerusalem, the eternal city where God will dwell with His people (Revelation 21:2). Jerusalem's holiness comes not from the city itself, but from God's presence, His redemptive work, and His promises fulfilled there.
