Nazareth is famous because it was the hometown of Jesus Christ, where He was raised after His family returned from Egypt. The Bible records that Jesus "came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth", fulfilling what had been spoken by the prophets that He would be called a Nazarene (Matthew 2:23, KJV). It was in Nazareth that the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah (Luke 1:26–38), and where Jesus spent most of His childhood and early adult life before beginning His public ministry. Later, Jesus preached in the synagogue at Nazareth, declaring the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, though many of the townspeople rejected Him (Luke 4:16–30). Though it was a small and humble village—prompting Nathanael to ask, "Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?" (John 1:46, KJV)—Nazareth became one of the most significant places in biblical history because it was the home of the Savior of the world.
