Jesus is called the Lamb of God because He became the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world. When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he declared, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29, KJV). In the Old Testament, spotless lambs were offered as sacrifices to atone for sin, especially during the Passover, when the blood of a lamb protected the Israelites from judgment (Exodus 12). These sacrifices pointed forward to Jesus, who lived a sinless life and willingly gave Himself on the cross as the final and perfect sacrifice for humanity's sins. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled the purpose of the sacrificial system once and for all (Hebrews 10:10–14). Calling Jesus the Lamb of God highlights His innocence, His sacrificial love, and His work of bringing forgiveness and salvation to all who believe in Him.
